An operational organic farm building is renovated to create a more healthy and beautiful work space
Roy Farms is a family-owned Yakima Valley farm that has been in operation for more than 100 years. They grow cherries, blueberries, and apples, but their biggest crop by far is hops, which they ship all over the world. The new generation of management is focused on sustainable living and organic agriculture. As part of their commitment to a sustainable future, they asked us to remodel an existing farm building to create a healthy and satisfying work space for their field employees.
The remodel provided an opportunity for energy efficiency upgrades throughout the structure. New insulation was added to the roof, and the walls feature new windows, increased interior insulation, and new continuous exterior insulation. New high efficiency mechanical systems were added, and a large PV array provides much of the energy needed for operations.
Office interiors are finished with healthy and reclaimed materials throughout, and the interior spaces were reorganized based on Feng Shui principles, with consultation from Gisela Stehr at Emerald Feng Shui Institute. We look forward to working on a new main operations office in the future!
